Sweetgrass Basket Making Workshop

Saturday – February 10th at 10:00 am

Sweetgrass baskets are one of America’s oldest crafts of African origin.  Kisha Kinard and her family own Sweetgrass Roots, a small farm dedicated to the preservation of sweetgrass basketry and other crafts. They travel regionally for lectures and workshops on sweetgrass production and basket making.

This workshop will include all the materials to make a small sweetgrass basket: starter basket (round) to be used to create a small fruit basket with a handle, sweetgrass, palmetto fronds; tools (scissor and nailbone) are provided but are to be returned at the end of the class.

The workshop will last about two hours and will open with a brief introduction followed by the hands-on session and a discussion of sweetgrass basketry during the session. This class is not appropriate for children.

Class Size is Limited. $80/person includes all materials

Event is rain or shine. No refunds. No paper tickets will be issued. Please bring your credit card receipt – or mobile receipt on your phone – as it will serve as your ticket. Applicable sales tax will be added at time of purchase.
