The Historic Rosedale Foundation is no longer accepting applications for the part-time African American Legacy Program Coordinator. We are in the process of selecting a candidate. When we have future employment needs, we will post them here.
Volunteer positions are ALWAYS available!
We are always seeking volunteers. If you have the time, we have a task to suit your interests and talents. Volunteer positions include: Special events and visitor host, garden help, clerical and front desk management, maintenance and preservation assistance, and research work.

Marty Foil
“Hey! I’m Marty Foil, Concord native and a member of the Rosedale Blacksmith Team since Dec of 2023! Currently I am serving as the lead blacksmith, helping to schedule all of our smiths to maximize the Rosedale guest experience and keep the blacksmith shop stocked and running smoothly. I’ve been a blacksmith for almost 12 years and really enjoy teaching guests about the enslaved smiths of Rosedale and the impact they had across the broader Mecklenburg community as well as demonstrating the craft of 19th century blacksmithing. Come visit me at the forge sometime! Happy to discuss the history of our Rosedale smiths, the role of blacksmiths in the 19th century community, blacksmithing in general or anything that comes to mind! The forge is a fun place to hang out and chat!”
Gene Pease
“My name is Gene Pease, I’ve lived in Charlotte since 1993, and I’ve been a Rosedale volunteer for a little more than 1 year. I am both a docent and one of the blacksmiths. For years, I passed by Rosedale not knowing it was there; then, one weekend, I attended a craft fair and was instantly attracted to the place. After retirement, I found that volunteering filled two of my interests; history and blacksmithing.I enjoy leading tours through the house and relaying the fascinating history Rosedale holds. In addition, I get to share the rich history of the Rosedale blacksmith shop while also sharing with guests my enjoyment in the craft. I receive much satisfaction from witnessing visitors’ reactions to the house and its diverse history and also seeing how our guests are amazed at who the original Rosedale blacksmiths were and the craft that continues to this day.”
Amanda Mullen
Our resident beekeeper, Amanda Mullen, became a beekeeper in 2020 and earned her NC Beekeeper’s Certification in 2024. She moved her hives to Rosedale in 2023, where she visits regularly to tend to the hives and extract honey. The delicious honey is sold in Rosedale’s gift shop. As Amanda tells us, “The bees absolutely LOVE the gardens here at Rosedale and produce an average of about 20 gallons of honey every year!”
Sean Sullivan
“My interest in architecture, history, and the human stories of the built environment came from growing up in a 400-year-old town in Connecticut, which led to a two-decade career in real estate in San Francisco. We relocated to Charlotte a decade ago, and Historic Rosedale is one of the few places here that retain their historic buildings and settings. Sharing this place and the stories of the people who lived and worked here offers a brief window into the past from the present and, hopefully, informs a better future for everyone. “
