Historic Rosedale Participate in Miles for Museums Program
Historic Rosedale is pleased to announce that the museum is a new participant in the “Miles for Museums” program which encourages the public to visit local history sites.
The “Miles for Museums” program started in 2023 when some local organizations began coordinating to highlight history focused museums and sites throughout the greater Charlotte area. Now in its third year, the program has a webpage cohosted by the Matthews Heritage Museum and a map. Participants are invited to print a passport and bring it the various locations. There are thirteen in total. There is no cost to participate. Each museum will charge their typical admission. There are small incentive gifts at most locations, and completed passports can be entered to win the prize raffle by sending a photo of the passport to info@milesformuseums.org.
Deanna Witte-Walker, executive director of Historic Rosedale stated, “The Miles for Museums program is such a natural fit for us here at Historic Rosedale. It is a great collaboration between heritage/cultural institutions which benefits both visitors and the organizations. We feel fortunate to participate, and for the fact that we are centrally located among our neighboring museums.”
The “Miles for Museums” program runs through the summer. The website and passport list the hours and locations for each museum.
Now is the ideal time to visit Historic Rosedale which is located at 3427 N. Tryon St., Charlotte. Visitors will want to tour the 1815 building which has been beautifully restored to demonstrate mid-19th century life, including the narrative of both the owners and enslaved families who lived and labored on the grounds. The nearly nine acres encompass extensive gardens as well as a recreated blacksmith shop.
The Gardens and Grounds of Historic Rosedale are open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and select Saturdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Grounds admission fee is $5.00. Guided house tours are offered at 11:30am and 1pm. The fee is $15 for adults, $13 for Seniors, Students, and Military/Veterans (includes grounds admission). Children under 5 are free. Private group house and garden tours can also be arranged.
The Mission of Historic Rosedale Foundation is threefold: to educate, to preserve and to continue to build a more diverse and inclusive platform for interpretation. We shall: 1) Present an authentic view of five generations of the Frew, Caldwell and Davidson families, and the enslaved and free African Americans that lived and worked on the land; 2) Preserve and interpret the 1815 historic house and the surrounding buildings emphasizing the important role these white and black families held in Charlotte, NC; 3) Provide and maintain a peaceful green space with Treasure Trees, garden borders, native and heirloom plants within a highly developed urban corridor.
