“The Art of Craft: 1830”

(December 15, 2006) – Historic Rosedale announces the second
annual The Art of Craft: 1830, a special event for the whole
family, Saturday, May 12, 2007. Many of North
Carolina’s best known potters will have their work for sale, including
Phil Morgan, Crystal King, Bulldog Pottery and Hat Thompson. In
addition, there will be print makers, basket weavers, and fiber artists
and other craftsmen. A silent auction featuring donated pieces
from many famous potters such as Ben Owen, III will be open until 3:00.
Historic Rosedale is a beautiful example of antebellum life in
Charlotte, located just three miles from the center of town. This
once grand 911-acre plantation still has over 8 acres, and offers an
insightful look into an intriguing time in Charlotte’s past.
The Art of Craft: 1830 will provide examples of what life was like
for Charlotte’s early settlers. Bring your whole family and see
how times have changed! There will be special 1830’s activities for
children such as pottery making, tin punch, cornhusk doll making,
demonstrations from the 1830’s including weaving, and story telling.
Barbecue lunch and drinks will be available.
Chairman Agnes Weisiger and her committee are looking forward to a good
turnout from Charlotte’s pottery and craft collectors and their
families.
For special patrons,
tickets are available for a preview breakfast from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30
a.m. Patrons will receive early access to the pottery and crafts show
and sale. Preview Breakfast tickets are $75 each, and can be
purchased in advance by contacting Historic Rosedale 704-335-0325.
General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and
students ages 5-18. Children 4 and under are free. Family
passes are available for $25. Gates open for general admission
at 10:30 a.m. and the event continues until 4:00 p.m. rain or shine at
Historic Rosedale, 3427
North Tryon St. in Charlotte.
